About Ownly

Built by students, for students.

Ownly is a financial literacy course for teens and the teachers who teach them. It grades your real money habits and comes with 74 short lessons, a mentor named Otis, and the tools to run it in a classroom.

The story

How Ownly started

Gabe Boyarsky and Hatcher Niles are high school seniors who completed their state’s official online personal finance course and came away unimpressed. The material was dry, the assessments were rote multiple choice, and many classmates simply had AI answer the questions for them. Finishing the course and understanding money had become two different things.

Ownly is their response. It begins with each student’s own numbers, teaches through short lessons built around real decisions, and asks students to commit to a prediction before the answer is revealed. The aim is straightforward. Every student should leave able to manage their own money with confidence.
